Located in the southeastern dry zone of Tissamaharama, Yala National Park is Sri Lanka’s premier wildlife sanctuary. Spanning coastal lagoons, open parklands, and dense scrub forests, Yala is world-renowned for having one of the highest leopard densities on earth. It is also home to wild Asian elephants, sloth bears, mugger crocodiles, and over 200 bird species.
Top Highlights:
Board a open-top 4×4 safari jeep for an afternoon or morning Yala Leopard Safari.
Spot wild herds of Asian elephants, sloth bears, wild boars, and spotted deer.
Watch the sunset over the historic Tissa Wewa Lake and ancient white stupas.
💡 Vimukthi’s Local Driving & Route Tip:
“Yala Block 1 normally closes for maintenance for 4 to 6 weeks during the dry season (usually September/October). When this happens, we switch your safari to Yala Block 5 or Udawalawe National Park so you still enjoy an amazing wildlife day without missing out!”
